sheetworld’s inception
By admin | December 20, 2007
Sheetworld began as a manufacturing / wholesale company with one idea in mind; producing the highest quality baby bedding in the world. To do this we had to see what the rest of the world was offering, and so we set out on a journey to find as many types, classes, styles, of baby bedding we can find, and what we found was very interesting. There were really two very extreme types of such bedding. There is the ‘less expensive’ bunch of crib bedding which doesn’t need to be looked at very closely to see the cheap materials and workmanship that produce it. And then there’s the ‘high end’, ‘hotsy totsy’, ’so expensive that you have to decide between a new car and a bumper set’ baby bedding that will burn a hole right in and through your pocket book. This high end line of bedding is made of fabrics that you would expect pricier bedding sets to be made of, and is usually complemented with some other fabrics that you never knew can be part of a bedding set at all, let alone a baby bedding set. There was one comm0n denominator between the two classes of bedding, they were both made off-shore…overseas…, and in most cases in countries like China. Now you’re thinking, how can a bedding set that sells for $199.00 and one that sells for $4,199.00 both be made in China. I mean don’t countries like China produce only the lowest quality merchandise? Well, the answer is ‘YES’, China and other countries do produce lower quality merchandise than that of the US, but there’s one simple variable which will sell both sets of linens…”marketing”. Put a name like ‘Ralph Lauren’, or ‘Calvin Klein’ to any item and they’ll probably sell like hotcakes (that’s obviously only to people who like hotcakes lol.)
Sheetworld decided that there has to be some common ground to work with. I mean we know that people want good quality bedding, we also know that people still want to be able to afford formula, diapers, and other essentials after buying their bedding, and so sheetworld took a very logical road; they will produce the highest quality bedding, that’s made in the US (not overseas) and for very affordable prices. So you’re thinking ‘yeah right, isn’t that everybody’s objective’? Of course it is….but the question is ‘how’?
Sheetworld decided that to accomplish this mission they would need to really focus their objective…and so they began. The main focus was to keep overhead down, gradually increase production ability, and keep everything in-house. This way they can manage quality control first hand, and see if there are any loose ends that have to be tied up :). Anything requiring attention can be dealt with instantly since everything’s being done under the same roof.
The next stage was to decide which products would work best for all clientele. Sheetworld decided that they will have to produce very fine colors and basic prints in bedding which will complement all sorts of cribs, cradles, bassinets, etc. They also realized that instead of having thousands of different products in different lines, they’d rather have thousands of assortments of in a more targeted area. After much thought and investigative work, they found one area of baby bedding that had a huge gap; this was for the baby ‘basic’ bedding, such as blankets and most importantly “sheets”. Sheetworld decided that they will make a sheet for every size baby crib, cradle, bassinet, and portable crib, just to start. Then they’ll follow that by the more specialty sheets such as for the round cribs, oval cradles, youth beds, pack n plays, crib n beds, etc. Finally, they will offer custom made sheets to everyone that can’t find the size sheet they need. For example, the old cradle that Grandpa built years ago with that not so standard size mattress, or the pack n play company out there that decided that they’ll be ‘different’ by making an odd size product (not thinking about the sheets for it, or that baby furniture company that decided they’ll sell the 5 inch mattresses instead of the standard 3 inch ones, but won’t offer the sheet that will fit it.
Sheetworld instantly began producing the softest and most basic color jersey knit fabrics, followed by flannels, and then percales, all of which was of course made of the softest 100% cotton material. Once they were comfortable with the selection of pastel colors, such as the optic white, pale ivory, baby pink & blue, soft yellow & mint, lavender & sage, just to name a few…..they began producing some other more bold colors, such as the brown, black, burgundy, red, etc. The sheets were introduced to retail independent and chain stores throughout the US, and the response was tremendous.
Sheetworld decided that they will use that same ’simple’ concept to begin a line of printed sheets. The objective was to produce patterns and prints that will coordinate with most companies bedding on the market. This way consumers wouldn’t have to get only the solid colors but they can get different patterns as well. We all know that when we ’try’ to purchase extra matching sheets for a bedding set, the sheet itself is almost as much as the entire set. Now customers would be able to get very simple prints that would blend into almost any color scheme of baby bedding.
Sheetworld began producing printed fabrics such as fine tiny polka dots in pink, blue, yellow, and pinstripes in the same pastel pink, blue & yellow, and of the beautiful gingham prints in the basic pastel colors as well. Once again the response from the wholesale and retail market was amazing!
So you wonder why the name ’sheetworld.com’?
